Building a website can be intimidating. It seems like there are a million things to know and a million ways to get it wrong. Knowing where to start and what to do can feel overwhelming. However, building a website is simple if you follow a few basic steps. Here are some Dos and Don’ts for building a winning web page on The Church Co.

Don't

Don't use a basic block to add long pieces of text to your page. The Basic Block is meant to be used for 2-3 sentences at most. If you want to add a longer piece of text, you should use a different block.

Do

Use different blocks to break up the content you're trying to add. For example, try the "Long Text Block" to add your text into columns. Or even try using the Image 2.0 Block and use the "Left and Right" setting to add some razzle-dazzle.

Don't

Don't rely only on stock images - mix them up with pictures of your church or business images. Your audience wants to know YOU, so adding your images allows them to learn more about your church, business, or yourself!

Do

Be sure to take plenty of pictures of your building, familiar faces, and other notable features. This way, if anyone is planning a visit, they can get to know a bit about you and your community through the pictures on your site.

Don't

Don't overwhelm your audience with too much information on your webpage. Too much information can make it difficult for them to navigate your site.

Do

Make pages that will help your audience navigate your site easier. Making pages that will help your audience navigate your site easier will improve the overall user experience of your website. By taking the time to ensure that your pages are easy to navigate, you will make it easier for people to find the information they need on your site. This will make it more likely that they will return to your site in the future.

Don't

Don't crowd your menu. Adding too many menu items will not only look busy, but it will also overwhelm your audience.

Do

Choose pages that are important to the audience on your website. When creating your menu, be sure to focus on quality over quantity. A few well-chosen items will be more effective than a long list of options.
